In the most recent Florida Chamber Foundation’s By The Numbers, the Florida Chamber Foundation takes a closer look at Florida’s current job numbers found on TheFloridaScorecard.org and the impact of Hurricane Irma on the state’s labor market.
Hurricane Irma had a large but temporary impact on Florida’s job numbers- 127,400 jobs lost were lost in September, with 41,300 of those jobs in the leisure and hospitality category.
While our state’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.8 percent, we continue to experience a skills gap with 221,100 jobs without people and 383,00 people looking for jobs.
How are Florida’s small businesses feeling? Eighteen percent of those who participated in the Florida Chamber’s Small Business Index Survey once again cite workforce quality as their number one issue.
