At Harry Chapin Food Bank, we love our volunteers. Without their donated time and effort, we could not continue our mission to feed the hungry. Our volunteers come from everywhere and all walks of life: working professionals, retirees, snowbirds, stay-at-home-parents, high school and college students, members of the U.S. military and more.

Now we invite you to come and volunteer as a family on our first Family Volunteer Day. This special event, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, is open to families with children age 10 and older. The volunteer event will be at the food bank main warehouse, 3760 Fowler St., Fort Myers.

Families will receive a tour of our 55,000-square-foot warehouse and learn how the food bank works. You will also pack food items for the clients we serve. Kids can also create designs and decorate paper bags that contain food distributions, or make cards for some of our clients.

You will leave with a “goodie bag” that includes an HCFB button, a family photo from the day’s activities and other items. You will also leave with the good feeling that comes from knowing that you helped someone in need.

Children from ages 10 to 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes.

The Harry Chapin Food Bank, an affiliate of Feeding America, is the leading hunger-relief organization in Southwest Florida.
